I just read your web page with the firefighter's retirement compensations. Don't know where you are going with this but I am sick and tired of defending my job or compensations. While you were at your Christmas, Birthday, New Year's, and every other celebration 15 dedicated firefighters were answering calls. We were hauling your elderly parents to the hospital even though there wasn't a problem (this is known as a holiday drop off). When you didn't want to clean the mess your elderly family made (yeh I mean when they crapped themselves) we did. We negotiated contracts and worked without contracts for as much as 2.5 years until an arbitrator told us what the contract was going to be. Remember we cannot strike, or walk off the job because someone has to protect your ungrateful ass. We took less money to get better benefits. The wages you see are a result of many, many hours of overtime because in the words of the city fathers, we would rather pay the overtime than hire more people and pay benefits. When you work more overtime, your final average compensation goes up. We worked 56 hours a week and 8 hour overtime shifts beside that.
The city manager probably didn't tell you besides the pension he receives from Sterling heights fire dept. he was in the SCS pension plan and now I believe he has a compensation plan as an administrator.
If you don't think I worked for what I have, give me a call and we can discus it. I am sick and tired of you uninformed idiots making it sound like the firefighters are just a bunch of greedy do nothings. I am done being politically correct. Kiss my ass.
